Dr. Prakan (Nut Nutchapon Rattanamongkol) is a surgeon at a hospital he co-owns due to inheriting the shares from his parents. He's got a lot of problems on his plate, including his cousin Metha (Sood Yacht Patsit Permpoonsavat) who he's in competition with to become the head of surgery which would be bad enough but Metha also thinks the female doctor he pines for, Nuch (Cookkai Pavadee Komchokpaisan), is in love with Prakan. Metha appears to be the only one amongst the doctors and nurses who doesn't know Prakan is gay.
There's also the matter of the head male nurse, Kheeta (Pat Chatburirak) who's been carrying a torch for him - Prakan is oblivious - and a new young doctor, Nathee Nonsri (Tae Weerapat Toemmaneerat) who appears to hate Prakan on sight... more on them later in the story if you watch it.
Prakan's biggest problem though is that he's the only one who can see the Grim Reapers who are coming to the hospital to pick up the souls of the dead which understandably puts a lot of extra pressure on a surgeon! There's one Grim Reaper in particular he regularly has conversations/arguments with. Prakan finds out the Grim Reapers can only be seen by anyone else in their "off duty" human form when the one he regularly talks to, Tua Phee (Karn Kasidej Hongladaromp) moves into the house next door to his along with his buddy Grim Reaper, Khett (played by Singto Numchok Thanatram, who's a well known singer in Thailand, think easy listening pop). The Grim Reapers' transition from work to being off duty involves moving from stylish black outfits to horrendously patterned sua lai doks (the Thai equivalent of the Hawaiian shirt) and shorts. Erm, I may have an opinion on this fashion choice and Prakan's not keen on it either. :D
I like that this BL canon is about more than the romantic relationships because of the Grim Reapers and some musings on the meaning of life and death. Considering the subject matter, it's surprisingly sweet at times with an interesting backstory involving why Prakan is the only human who can see the Grim Reapers. It has a secondary BL couple as well.
One of the major differences I've noticed between Western dramas and Asian dramas involving immortal characters in relationships with mortal characters is - hmmm, is this a spoiler? It might be seen as as spoiler so under the cut it goes *while Western ones tend to solve it by making the mortal character immortal, the Asian ones go more for them both staying the same and just having to deal with the ageing process OR turning the immortal mortal * and I find this fascinating.
For those who need to know how it ends, *It's appropriately bittersweet but with a bright outlook for the future.*
Yes, I ship Praken/Tua Phee. Try to act surprised I'll wait. ;D
