Fandom: A Tale of a Thousand Stars (2021)/Our Skyy 2 eps 14-16 (2023)
Characters/Pairings: Chief Phupha Viriyanon/Tian Sopaditsakun
Warnings/Spoilers: None

Finally I got around to making icons for this beautiful, romantic Thai series and while searching for images I discovered they had recently filmed a sequel as part of a series called Our Skyy 2 (link goes to all the episodes but the 1000 stars episodes are 14-16). Of course I could not resist watching and loving these extra moments with Phupha and Tian :)

I made a review post for Meet You at the Blossom! You can find it here.

12 x 45 minutes available on iQiyi to subscribers OR you can see the first two episodes on youtube here and episodes 3-12 here on Dailymotion. Scroll to the bottom of the page.

Dr. Prakan (Nut Nutchapon Rattanamongkol) is a surgeon at a hospital he co-owns due to inheriting the shares from his parents. He's got a lot of problems on his plate, including his cousin Metha (Sood Yacht Patsit Permpoonsavat) who he's in competition with to become the head of surgery which would be bad enough but Metha also thinks the female doctor he pines for, Nuch (Cookkai Pavadee Komchokpaisan), is in love with Prakan. Metha appears to be the only one amongst the doctors and nurses who doesn't know Prakan is gay.

More information about the plot under here if you want it )
I like that this BL canon is about more than the romantic relationships because of the Grim Reapers and some musings on the meaning of life and death. Considering the subject matter, it's surprisingly sweet at times with an interesting backstory involving why Prakan is the only human who can see the Grim Reapers. It has a secondary BL couple as well.

One of the major differences I've noticed between Western dramas and Asian dramas involving immortal characters in relationships with mortal characters is - hmmm, is this a spoiler? It might be seen as as spoiler so under the cut it goes *while Western ones tend to solve it by making the mortal character immortal, the Asian ones go more for them both staying the same and just having to deal with the ageing process OR turning the immortal mortal * and I find this fascinating.

For those who need to know how it ends, *It's appropriately bittersweet but with a bright outlook for the future.*

Yes, I ship Praken/Tua Phee. Try to act surprised I'll wait. ;D

14 x 50 minutes. It's a playlist here on youtube that will just autoplay the next episode/part (each episode is split into 4 posted parts) and it's also here on the official My Engineer youtube site. The disadvantage of the official site is they have a separate playlist for each episode. The advantage is they have goofy RL stuff with the crew. Starring: Cooper Patpasit Na Songkhla, Poy Kritsanapong Soonthornchatchawet, Lay Talay Sanguandikul, Perth Stewart Nakhuntanagarn Screaigh (plays Ken in Kinnporsche?), Inntouch Naphat Chalermphonphakdee and Ryan Peng.

I'm been going back and forth about whether to post about this one for a while. It's really cute and goofy and like a lot of Thai BLs has multiple M/M pairings/potential M/M pairings in case one appeals more than the others do. So, why the hesitancy? The 14 episode series as it navigates the various pairings is fun BUT they planned from the start to make a second season so it ends a bit abruptly with some of the relationships unresolved, difficulties presented but not yet negotiated, and the main couple only really just getting around to 'serious' dating. It's now 2024 and I think the chances of getting that second series they planned for is increasingly unlikely. It's truly weird. There's even a post about that second season up on MDL. I know there were a few hiccups, like Ryan Peng who plays Mek is Chinese and apparently his Thai wasn't as good as advertised as well as some other small stuff like that (small cos they often dub people's voices in Asian dramas anyway) but no obviously massive roadblocks and season 1 was extremely popular.

So okay, on to the plotline such as it is for the lead pair. Bon (popular senior engineering student who has only ever dated girls, played by Cooper) decides to get revenge on Duen (innocent first-year medical student who hasn't dated anyone but believes he's only attracted to girls, played by Poy) for unintentionally punching him, where Duen has to buy a flower for Bon every day for a month - Yeah, I dunno, maybe 'revenge' is different in Thailand. *g*

The other pairings/potential pairings are comprised of engineering and medical students plus one business student who vies with Bon as the uni's most popular student.

Goofy but fun if you want something, well, goofy but fun with a side of angst. *g* I still hope it gets that second season, mainly for Ram and King. Ram is played by Perth Nakhun Screaigh, A Thai-Australian actor who has a fun youtube channel about Thai BL.

14 x 45 minutes, it can be watched on WE TV, BiliBili and Dailymotion.

WARNING: This show is pretty violent and while certainly equal opportunity to a large degree, it does contain violence against and the sexual abuse/exploitation/coercion of women. I would rate the intensity of what you see on screen as being at a level that would be regularly seen on US broadcast television but far nastier things are talked about/suggested. Also, if abortion is a topic you prefer to avoid altogether this show is not for you (it's a very small part of the plot and not unsympathetic in portrayal). If you want/need more information, please ask and I'll put it under a spoiler cut in my comment response to you.

Dr. Bunnakit 'Bun' (Tul Pakorn Thanasrivanitchai) is a medical examiner based at a provincial hospital. After carrying out an autopsy on the body of a woman who had seemingly hanged herself, Bun's findings point to homicide. All clues point to one suspect, a man named Tan (Max Nattapol Diloknawarit) who denies any involvement, a man Bun drunkenly forced a kiss on in a nightclub when he'd newly arrived in town.

This is the type of thing I'm always on the look out for, a canon BL series where the murder mystery and not the romance is the main subject of the story. While it has a few twists and turns, it's not the most complicated plot I've ever seen, relying heavily as it does on red herrings and character actions that could be open to a wide range of interpretations at the time... or at least that's what I thought until the plot unexpectedly turned positively Shakespearean tragedy on my arse. Blimey! *shudders*

Nearly all of the cast are wonderful in their roles and the leads have great chemistry which is probably due in part to the fact that Tul and Max are friends and have starred in 9 different Thai dramas together, all LGBTQ+ themed.

gifs under here )

IF you can deal with the warnings up above, I'd recommend it if you like some plot with your canon BL and/or enjoy murder mysteries and would love to have a BL couple at the centre of it for a change (there's also a younger BL couple and another older one that appears to be forming) *g*

I'm throwing this extra publicity photo in because I can... You're welcome! ;D )

off-topic but posting because everyone currently here watches BL, we need more light in the world, and it's something we can share without adding to PTW lists

Last October, the BBC opened their most mainstream family orientated beloved by all ages from grans to bairns prime time Sunday evening flagship programme with this

Please keep in mind this was the regular opening group dance from the professionals on Strictly Come Dancing. These dances sometimes highlight two of the pros and include a bit of a story, with the other pro dancers integrated throughout and taking up a lot of the visual space. This one is unique in giving 3 minutes to the featured dancers on their own and telling its story with such clarity. That's why the other pros feel extraneous to it.
