Enigma watch party

Enigma is a 4 episode supernatural series set in a girls high school featuring intelligent, determined young women and Win Metawin's abs. It is VERY bingeable (best binged IMO if you can), creepy AF but not too scary or gory. Well crafted and great story-telling - they do brilliant things with lighting, acting, sound, well-contextualised props and editing.

It is excellent as a palette cleanser or a change of pace during a long one. GMMTV, playlist here

I didn't realise this before, but the first [1/4] of episodes 3 and 4 are age-restricted. If you don't want to give youtube your details, try an alternative front end like Piped. There's a list of servers at the bottom of the Preferences page. Pick one, find what you want to watch and go. If the one you're using isn't working too well, try another (youtube rate limits them sometimes). Age restrictions aren't a problem on most of the European servers I use. I don't know about U.S.

Let's try this as an asynchronous watch party. Watch at your own pace and join in the conversation as you want. Threading from comments for episodes was recommended to keep it tidy. (I've not done this before here, so it's all a bit of an experiment and we'll figure out what suits us best. All the more reason to start with a short one.) I love how resourceful Fa is, she's more than book-smart. Prim does a great job with the character too. Every emotion tracks with the situation she's in. I know others will focus on the interesting mystery of Ajin but for me this will always be Fa's story.

Enigma, episode 2

has fun meta-watching HOW they do it, gets so caught up in the story I completely forget about that... 😊
but the visual story-telling in 2 [4/4] is so good

*and the way that they hide a certain person in plain sight. very good. she's a brilliant actress for that too*

i'm well hooked. again. i know the whole story. there are no surprises 😂

I love the cinematography and I like that they seem to be going for minimal CGI.

That's Prigkhing :) :) And Yiwha fangothing the existence of magic is priceless.
Prigkhing has a support role in an upcoming Channel 3 lesbian lakorn tooThe Secret of Us.

Agree on the minimal CGI. What they do instead feels so immersive.

different experience watching this more slowly than in a binge. the relief of part of this is very much needed, and thus intensified, when watching it quickly.
the art room disco hallucination, stand out for how much they did with almost nothing. and then the tension as we learn more about a certain person

I've read conflicting things re: the size of budget they had, so I'm not sure how much of their choices were for practical reasons or stylistic reasons, but they did an awesome job. Highlight for spoilers! * That art room scene was so tense and really effective!

I really hope they can help Namsine as well as stop her. Like she's done some awful things, but I still kinda want to give her a hug.*

With it being only 4 episodes, I've always just assumed they didn't have much budget and took it as a challenge rather than a limitation :)

the story-telling is superb, they set up things so well. the pool scene, wow. and who saves whom in the end 100/100 marks

I really liked this series and imho that was a very satisfying ending!

Highlight for spoilers! *I loved seeing Fa using the illusion spell against possessed!Ajin and her exorcism was very clever. I'm so happy both Yiwha and Namsine survived! I loved Yiwha getting Fa the info she needed and Namsine rescuing Fa from the pool! Also tbh despite Fa's crush on Ajin, I ship her more with Namsine.*

I was hoping for Fa and Yiwha. Namsine scared me too much the first time (I mean that as the sincerest compliment to Piploy, writer & director :D :D). The use of the black going onto the paper in the pool was so simple and so effective. They set that up so well. The connections between the pool scene and what came before was brilliant, even the location that we saw briefly earlier.

A more subtle callback is the location itself to the scene where the second girl to be affected (Mat) is on the diving platform. It's such a small touch, her madness didn't need to take her there.

Please recommend it to others too, na? :) It's one of the most broadly accessible intros to Thai series.
